Located on five wooded acres on the Englishman River in the picturesque community of Errington on Vancouver Island, British Columbia CANADA
To book a stay with us please call Marlene and Harvey Prescott at 250-248-0682.  We are located at 740 Englishman River Road, Errington, BC  V0R 1V0

We are located on the magnificent Englishman River.  From the doorstep of our cottage you can access a trail that follows the river.  This trail goes through a newly created Nature Trust Park and eventually comes out at Top Bridge Park which now has a beautiful new suspension bridge.

At Hobo's Pond we invite you to join us (Marlene and Harvey) on our beautiful woodland acres.  We do not use any chemicals or pesticides on our land and consequently our guests can enjoy wild gardens and many beautiful flowers and native weeds.

SEE PHOTO ALBUM BELOW (new photos coming soon).

In our guest suite we use only 100 percent cotton linens and provide guests with our own homemade soap make with vegetable oils and rainwater.

We retired to our five acres in 2001 and since that time we have been working to make Hobo's Pond a place where family, friends and guests can come and enjoy the natural beauty of this area.

Hobo's pond is home to many local critters and in the summer it is fun to relax by the pond and watch the dragonflies and butterflies enjoy this rich and diverse habitat.  From our doorstep guests can hike the trails along the river or relax on the property beside Hobo's Pond.  There is a shallow pool (5 feet deep) in the river at the foot of our property where guests can take a freshing swim.

On our five acres are many of the plants that are native to this region.  Please ask us and we will identify them for you.  In the years that we have been here (since 2001) we have seen an increase in the bee and bird populations.

Tucked into the back corner of the property is a large pond teeming with pond life:

Spend your day relaxing at several picnic sites on our property.  Read a book, play badminton or sit by Hobo's Pond and enjoy the birds, fish and dragonflies that make the pond their home.

A short drive from Hobo's Pond and you can be at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park where a couple of minutes hiking brings you to a suspension bridge over magnificent falls which crash through deeply carved canyons into emerald green pools of water.

Your Room:

The Hobo Room is very comfortable.  We supply a microwave, table for two, small fridge, Queen-size bed with goose-down duvet and cotton bed linens, big fluffy towels, alarm clock, radio, 27 inch TV, VCR/DVD (within headphones), CD player, ironing board and iron.  We provide wireless internet access.  This cosy room has ensuite plumbing with a shower (our own homemade soap).

The loft guest room has a small patio with a table and chairs where our guests can relax and enjoy a bird's eye view of our native trees - cedar, fir, spruce, alder and hemlock and gardens.   Some of our trees are very large.

We encourage our guests to enjoy the restfulness of our wooded property.  Guests can play badminton or take a refreshing swim in the river.  We have two large ponds.  From the guest patio you can enjoy bird or star-watching.  No city lights here!

Native plants:
At Hobo's Pond we have salal bushes, Oregon grape, huckleberry bushes, salmonberry bushes, cascara trees, vanillin, wild honeysuckle, elderberry shrubs, skunk cabbage, buttercups, stinging nettles, dandelions, yarrow, bleeding hearts and many ferns.  And we have many trees: cedar, fir, hemlock, maple, alder and spruce trees as well as hedges made of Leylandi cedars.  Many of our trees are old and very large.

We also have small areas on our property where we are nurturing a few flowers and herbs.  And we now have a young orchard of apples, cherries and plums.  My favourite pond plants are the magnificent irises which come in many beautiful colours.

At Hobo's Pond you can relax at a picnic table, read a book  or you can sit by the pond and enjoy our native birds and wild ducks.  At certain times of the year we have beautiful dragonflies who swoop back and forth over the pond.  The Western Tanager has made our property his home and it is delightful to hear his song.  This year we have many wild canaries.  Eagles, herons, doves as well as robins, and wrens are also residents at Hobo's Pond.
